Gravy Train

In the 1920′s, gravy was a slang word for easy money usually gotten by illegal means.  Gravy is a rich food and sometimes used to describe  luxuries. To have it easy by making a living with little effort.

To ride the gravy train” means to acquire an ongoing situation that provides good pay or other benefits with little labor or trouble.
